The Sun City West Canine Companions Club will offer a series of dog training classes in November and December at Sun City West Dog Park ‘B’, located at 19003 N. R.H. Johnson Blvd. The sessions are led by club member Kristine Hayes Nibler and follow positive feedback from pilot classes held in April, organizers said.

Instruction begins with a Manners 102 class on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 7:45–8:45 a.m., according to the club’s published schedule, though readers should confirm the exact year and day-of-week with organizers as Nov. 12 does not fall on a Wednesday in 2025. On the same day the club will also run Manners 101 classes at 9–10 a.m. and 6–7 p.m. Additional Manners 101 sessions are scheduled for Friday mornings starting Nov. 14, at 7:45–8:45 a.m. and 9–10 a.m. Each listed course totals six hours of instruction. All sessions take place in the Dog Park ‘B’ cell on the grounds of the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, behind the tennis courts.

The Sun City West Canine Companions Club, which organized the spring offerings, expanded the late‑autumn schedule after participants reported favorable results from the April classes. Kristine Hayes Nibler, identified by the club as the instructor for the November–December series, will lead the group sessions at Dog Park ‘B’.

Organizers emphasized the community focus of the program: the schedule places multiple class times on Nov. 12 to accommodate different resident schedules and adds Friday morning options beginning Nov. 14 to broaden access. With each course totaling six hours, the club said the format is intended to provide measurable progress in basic manners over a compact timeframe. Answers the question: What are the general benefits of dog training for both pets and their owners?

Dog training carries benefits for both pets and owners, according to animal welfare literature. For dogs, structured training can improve behavior, reduce anxiety and provide essential mental stimulation that enhances overall well‑being and social integration. For owners, training improves communication with their pets, increases safety and strengthens the human‑animal bond, helping owners feel more confident managing their dogs in public settings.

The classes also serve a socialization role within the community. Puppy socialization and group training provide structured, positive exposure to unfamiliar dogs, people and environments; research links this kind of exposure to reduced fear and aggression and improved sociability in adult dogs. Answers the question: How do dog training classes impact the socialization of dogs in a community? Studies indicate that dogs attending such classes are less likely to develop severe behavior issues, a point organizers cited when describing the program’s aims.

For owners who wish to continue or supplement instruction at home, free evidence‑based resources are available from major animal welfare organizations. The ASPCA, for example, offers online guidance on general dog care, house training and behavior with step‑by‑step instructions for basic manners and problem prevention. Organizers noted that these materials can reinforce techniques taught in group classes and provide consistent follow‑through between sessions.

Classes at Dog Park ‘B’ are being presented as practical, group‑based instruction that mirrors approaches recommended by national bodies. The American Kennel Club and the ASPCA both advocate positive‑reinforcement methods and structured group settings to improve behavior and adaptability—principles the club said inform its curriculum.

Residents interested in attending should note the start dates and times above and the location at 19003 N. R.H. Johnson Blvd. for all sessions at Dog Park ‘B’. The Sun City West Canine Companions Club is the organizing body running the training classes, and Kristine Hayes Nibler will serve as instructor for the November–December offerings.
