Known for their cat-like agility and lively personality, the Shiba Inu is one of Japan’s native breeds. They were originally bred to hunt small game and birds. The Shiba Inu has a very distinct personality – they are fiery and bold while also intelligent and strong-willed. Their strong-willed nature can translate to stubbornness when training, though. They tend to be freethinking and will need early and consistent training. Early socialization will help with their tendencies to be possessive with their toys, food, etc. The Shiba Inu is, however, a great family dog and will get along great with children if socialized properly. They tend to be a bit weary of other dogs and animals, though, so early socialization is necessary. This loving and loyal breed will make a great addition to any family!
