PRATTVILLE, Ala. — Firefighters in Prattville rescued a lone puppy from the scene of a Saturday morning car crash and provided short-term care at the fire station while the animal’s owners were transported with serious injuries, the department said.

The Prattville Fire Department said crews located the puppy, identified by officials as Lucy, at or near the wreck and made sure she was safe while other responders transported her owners for medical attention. With the family unable to care for their pet immediately after the crash, firefighters brought Lucy back to the station and provided immediate shelter.

“After Lucy’s family was transported, our firefighters brought her back to the station where she’s been given a good bath, a meal, and a warm bed until her family can come pick her up,” the Prattville Fire Department wrote in a social media post that included photos of the puppy at the station.

The department described the owners’ condition as serious. “PFD units responded and took good care of Lucy’s family who need our prayers as they have serious injuries,” the department wrote, linking the animal rescue to the broader emergency response at the scene.

Crew members said they cleaned and fed the puppy and kept her at the station while the owners received medical care. Officials indicated the temporary foster arrangement will remain in place until the family is well enough to reunite with Lucy.
