PORT ANGELES — Firefighters pulled one adult from a burning home and found three dogs alive after a Wednesday house fire on the 2000 block of Dan Kelly Road, officials said.

Responders determined the blaze was unintentional and traced its origin to the stovepipe area of a wood-burning stove, Clallam County fire officials said. The single-story structure sustained significant roof damage and crews reported visible smoke emanating from the roof area when they arrived.

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue led the multi-agency response alongside the Port Angeles Fire Department and Fire District #3. Olympic Ambulance personnel evaluated the occupant who had been assisted out of the house; that individual was reported unharmed. In total, three adults who lived in the home were displaced by the incident, and representatives from the American Red Cross were contacted to provide emergency housing and short-term assistance.

Officials said crews first encountered visible smoke coming from the roof and worked to control the blaze while protecting occupants and neighboring properties. Firefighters made an interior rescue to remove one adult from the structure, then conducted searches that located all three household dogs alive. The animals were accounted for on scene and handed back to their owners after crews verified conditions were safe.

Fire crews focused on extinguishing active flames, knocking down hot spots and ventilating smoke from the house. After extinguishment, crews completed overhaul operations to ensure no remaining embers could reignite and to assess structural damage, particularly to the roof area. Photographs and social media posts from local agencies and community news outlets documented firefighters on scene and the visible roof damage before crews cleared the scene at about 6:30 p.m.

According to incident reports, investigators traced the fire to the stovepipe region of the home’s wood stove and classified the cause as unintentional. No injuries requiring hospital transport were reported. Olympic Ambulance personnel evaluated the rescued occupant on site, and Clallam County fire officials confirmed that the person was unharmed.

The three displaced adults were working with local services to secure short-term housing and meet immediate needs after the fire. Fire officials said they would continue to assess the structural condition of the residence and coordinate with the property owners on next steps.

Local outlets covering the incident included My Clallam County and the Peninsula Daily News, both of which posted updates and images that chronicled the multi-district response on Dan Kelly Road. Posts from responding departments also provided real-time views of crews extinguishing the blaze, performing overhaul and ensuring the scene was safe for investigators and occupants.

Firefighters remained on scene through extinguishment and overhaul, eventually completing operations and leaving at approximately 6:30 p.m. The family left the scene to coordinate follow-up with the Red Cross and other community support services.
