Holiday Adopt-A-Thon is holding a Holiday Adopt-A-Thon from Friday, Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center in Lincoln Park to help more than 125 homeless pets find new homes by waiving adoption fees and extending hours.

The three-day event will be staged at the Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center at 1997 N. Clybourne Avenue, Lincoln Park, with expanded hours intended to increase the number of adoptions during the holiday weekend.

The schedule opens Friday, Dec. 12 from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14, the center will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the adopt-a-thon. PAWS Chicago is promoting fee-waived or specially discounted adoptions on select animals to reduce barriers for prospective adopters.

“To adopt a pet from PAWS Chicago you must be at least 21 years old, have a valid government-issued photo ID and verify you are allowed to have a pet of the breed and size you’re looking to adopt where you currently live,” PAWS Chicago said.

Organizers say the adopt-a-thon will feature dogs, cats, puppies and kittens highlighted for placement over the three-day period. The event is part of PAWS Chicago’s seasonal effort to move more animals out of shelter care and into permanent homes before the end of the year.

The adopt-a-thon page on the PAWS Chicago website outlines event details and frequently asked questions, including the requirements for adoption and the extended hours for the weekend; more information is available on PAWS holding holiday pet adopt-a-thon this weekend …

Local reporting from CBS News has also detailed the dates and times for the event and reiterated the shelter’s goal of helping more than 125 homeless pets find new homes over the holiday weekend.

Staff and volunteers at the Lincoln Park adoption center will be available throughout the extended hours to help match prospective adopters with animals and to process adoptions. The fee waivers apply to select pets as announced by the shelter.

Prospective adopters should bring a valid government-issued photo ID and be prepared to verify that their housing allows the breed and size of the animal they wish to adopt, per PAWS Chicago’s stated adoption requirements.

The adopt-a-thon reflects PAWS Chicago’s broader adoption calendar and its use of themed, seasonal events to increase placements and relieve shelter capacity pressures at year’s end. Staff encourage interested people to plan visits during the extended hours to accommodate busy schedules over the holiday weekend.
