Intelligent and elegant, the German Pinscher was bred to hunt and kill rodents. They are an energetic breed that loves to play and be around their family. The German Pinscher can be a bit overbearing and assertive but early training will nip that in the bud. They are a devoted breed and will make a protective and loyal guard dog. The German Pinscher can be suspicious of strangers, though, and will bark – loudly – if they feel the need to. This breed can have an independent streak but they are very intelligent and quick learners. Early socialization will help them get along with children and other dogs. However, because of their assertive and strong nature, they are not recommended for homes with children under nine.
