This hard-working dog from the Swiss Alps was originally bred to herd cattle, but today its devoted, watchful personality makes it an ideal dog for families and fun-loving owners. Always needing a job, the Englebucher Mountain Dog will settle for practicing agility training, babysitting the kids or being a stellar watchdog. This breed is happiest when it’s part of the family and gets all the exercise it wants. Owners can rejoice that Entlebuchers shed very little and barking is usually resigned to helpful alerts, though it does tend to be louder than expected for a dog of its size. This handsome canine is intelligent and loyal, though it can be stand-offish toward strangers.
