The Cranberry Cluster Dog Show will take place at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in East Falmouth, September 11-14, 2025, bringing 834 dogs to compete in conformation, obedience and dock-diving events. It’s worth noting that events like this one contribute to the ongoing conversation about breed popularity, although winning breeds at shows, such as the prestigious Westminster, do not typically experience a significant surge in registrations.

The three-day meet-up of handlers and competing dogs is one of the region’s largest autumn events for the sport, combining traditional ring competition with the North American Diving Dogs program of pool-based distance and retrieve contests. Organizers say the lineup will include multiple breeds and varieties across conformation, obedience, rally and specialty demonstrations. Notably, the recent trend indicates that French Bulldogs have surged in popularity, becoming the top purebred breed according to American Kennel Club (AKC) registrations.

The event’s schedule lists events beginning Thursday, Sept. 11-14, 2025. The fairgrounds sit at 1220 Nathan Ellis Highway (Route 151) in East Falmouth, and the series is presented by the Cape Cod Kennel Club alongside the South Shore Kennel Club.

Competing dogs must be at least 6 months old and registered with the AKC, meeting specific health requirements that ensure they are in sound condition and up-to-date on vaccinations. The range of competitions includes conformation rings and obedience trials as well as dock-diving contests overseen by North American Diving Dogs.

David Harsch, spokesman for the Cranberry Cluster Dog Show, described the dock-diving events as a central crowd-pleaser. “On September 12-14 only, dogs of all breeds and sizes compete for Titles in Distance Jump and Air Retrieve outdoors in a pool. And yes, it’s just as cool as it sounds,” he said.

Harsch said many handlers enter dogs specifically for water events. “Most people who enter it know their dogs like water … Dogs enjoy it, they love getting wet. They (pet parents) wouldn’t be able to get the dogs to do it more than once if they didn’t,” he added, explaining part of the sport’s appeal to participants and spectators alike. This hands-on approach often requires considerable training for dogs to perform well in conformation shows, which includes teaching them to stack properly and walk well on a leash.

Beyond the rings and pool, the grounds will feature concessions selling food and dog-related items such as collars and leads. “There are concessions which sell food and dog-related items like collars and leads so you can stay all day and shop between events,” Harsch said.

Show organizers and clubs expect the mixed program of events to attract hobbyist handlers, competitive exhibitors, and families. The Cranberry Cluster’s dates and presenting clubs are listed on event pages and regional schedules; additional event details and judging times have been published in advance by outlets covering the show, including ShowSight Magazine.

Competitions such as this typically run multiple rings and back-to-back trials, and organizers have arranged space for both indoor and outdoor events on the fairgrounds property. The inclusion of North American Diving Dogs’ pool events gives the schedule a mix of traditional conformation judging and spectator-oriented demonstrations. With the growth of formats that showcase the various capabilities of dogs, this event is indicative of a broader movement to make dog shows more inclusive and dynamic.

The Cranberry Cluster will host entries across dozens of breeds and varieties, and the array of activity — from rally and obedience tests to dock diving — is planned to run through the weekend at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in East Falmouth.
