If you are considering getting a Miniature Australian Shepherd, you'll want to check out the incredible book "The Complete Guide to Miniature Australian Shepherds". It's written in an easy-to-understand way but still has the expert knowledge to help any new owner successfully raise their Miniature Australian Shepherd from puppy to old-age. It's widely available, so pick up a copy if you see one, or click here to grab one on Amazon.
The Miniature Australian Shepherd was only recently bred (the breed was started in 1993), so they are not recognized by any major dog kennel associations. They are very easy to train, since they strive to please their owners. Grooming is only done for maintaining the dogs fur, and it is not considered high maintenance. These little dogs are active and should be played with and exercised frequently to keep their weight down. Obedience training will be very beneficial, since they need to be active and given a job, like stranded breeds. They tend to live about 12 years on average.
