Named for the remote valley in Ireland where they originated, the Glen of Imaal Terrier was bred to hunt small animals and rodents. This independent and affectionate breed is a great pint-sized companion. Being a terrier, the Glen of Imaal Terrier loves to dig and loves to chase. You can blame that on his heritage as a hunter. Early training is necessary, as they can be a bit stubborn. They are a protective breed and make a great watchdog. However, they can sometimes be weary of other dogs, so early socialization is necessary. The Glen of Imaal Terrier’s protective and loving personality make them a great companion.
