The Chocolate Lab is a color variation of the Labrador, a sporting dog that is popular with hunters. Besides being used to hunt waterfowl, they are popular for seeing-eye and hearing dogs for individuals with disabilities, as well as pulling carts and performing search-and-rescue work. The Chocolate Lab is noted for being a loving family dog, getting along well with children and becoming very protective over them. This breed needs a lot of exercise since they enjoy eating, and can be prone to obesity. They are at risk for certain health issues, including cataracts and deafness, usually happening later in the dog’s life.
