Spirited and intelligent, the Briard was originally bred as a herding and guard dog. They are known as a “heart wrapped in fur” due to their devotion to their family. That being said, the Briard is not overly dependent. Their intelligence makes them easily trainable, though they can be stubborn. Early training can prevent their headstrong tendencies. Their wariness of strangers and loyalty to their family makes them great watch dogs. Early socialization will ensure a Briard will get along well with other dogs and children. This loving and gentle breed will make a perfect family companion.
