Tenacious and smart, the Bluetick Coonhound was originally bred to be a hunter. They are an active breed that loves their family and makes a wonderful companion. Though very intelligent, early and consistent training is necessary. Early socialization is a must as well, especially around young children and other dogs. Their strong hunting ability leads them to chase smaller animals. They also have a strong nose and are known for wandering off if they find a particularly interesting scent. The Bluetick Coonhound is a devoted family dog and makes a great companion.
