Tractor Supply’s Calimesa store will host a “Home for the Holidays” pet adoption event on Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving local families a four-hour window to meet animals available for adoption, take holiday photos and take part in family-friendly activities designed to promote permanent placement.
The open-house style event invites customers to browse adoptable pets presented by local rescue groups and to participate in scheduled seasonal activities throughout the day. Guardian Angel Rescue and Barc Adoption Center will provide animals for the event, and Tractor Supply said local rescue groups will manage the adoption process on site, working with prospective adopters to complete paperwork and answer questions about pet care and placement.
“Caring for pets and serving the Calimesa community are at the core of what we do,” store manager Jeffrey Gomez said, describing the event as both a celebration of the season and a purposeful effort to connect animals with new families. “Home for the Holidays lets us celebrate our customers and connect more animals with families ready to love them.”
Jenn Jakobs, Tractor Supply’s District Manager, reiterated the company’s focus on animal welfare and community support. “Tractor Supply is committed to ensuring the welfare of animals and uplifting the Calimesa community,” she said. “The Home for the Holidays event is a way to show appreciation for our customers during a season of giving while also helping animals in need find their forever homes.”
Organizers described the schedule as informal and visitor-friendly: attendees may arrive any time during the four-hour period to meet animals, take holiday-themed photos and join activities hosted by volunteers. The event listing also appears on Rescue Ranch’s calendar, offering a second place for residents to confirm details before they attend.
Tractor Supply’s model for the event brings retail space and community foot traffic together with local shelters’ adoption efforts, creating a one-day opportunity for families to meet animals available for adoption and take steps toward permanent placement without visiting a shelter facility. Local rescue groups will handle medical history, screening and adoption approvals on site, while Tractor Supply provides space and promotional support.
Research suggests that pet adoption events can increase adoptions, but their impact on overall community adoption rates is modest and depends heavily on how the events are structured. The company and participating rescues said they hope the Calimesa event’s combination of visibility, convenience and community outreach will maximize positive outcomes for animals and families. Individuals can donate money or supplies to local shelters and rescues, as organizations like the ASPCA and AKC Humane Fund provide grants and in-kind support (e.g., pet food via partners like Chewy or Purina) that bolster these efforts.
Those capacity needs are significant: animal shelters and rescue organizations commonly struggle with overcrowding and capacity issues, as intakes outpace adoptions and animals stay longer in care, which increases stress on animals and staff. Organizers said events like the Tractor Supply adoption day are one part of a larger effort to relieve shelter pressure by increasing visibility and placement options for adoptable animals.
Families planning to attend are encouraged to arrive during the event hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to participate in festivities and meet adoptable pets from the participating shelters. Local rescue staff will be on site throughout the event to guide prospective adopters through the next steps and provide information about each animal’s health and temperament.
