The Cairn Terrier originated from Scotland, where it was primary bred for catching rats. However, most people identify this breed as Toto, made famous in the movie The Wizard of Oz. These dogs need daily exercise, although if walked often enough, they can live happily in an apartment or without a fenced in yard. Although Cairn terriers are easily trained, they should be taught obedience so they learn to listen from their human; without some form of training, they may try to take over the household they live in. This breed is prone to several health problems, including hip dysplasia, luxating patella and cataracts, to name a few.
