Athletic and intelligent, the Springer Spaniel was bred as a gun dog to flush small animals out in the field for hunters. They are an extremely smart and enthusiastic breed with an amazing sense of humor. They are great family dogs and generally get along well with children if raised with them or socialized properly. Springer Spaniels also do well with other dogs and even cats, if socialized enough. Due to their hunting heritage, this breed requires a lot of exercise and will do best with an active family. They are intelligent, too, and shouldn’t be too difficult to train. They will bark when a stranger approaches but do not make a good guard dog – they are too friendly! Because of their devotion to their families, they don’t do well being alone for long periods of time. The Springer Spaniel is great for those looking for a lively, energetic, and smart dog!
