Originating in Scotland, the Scottish Deerhound was bred to hunt and take down the Scottish roe deer – an animal twice or more their size. Though their size can be intimidating, the Scottish Deerhound is actually quite gentle. They get along with everyone – from family to strangers – and loves children. They tend to get along well with other dogs, too, especially larger ones. Because of their overly friendly nature, the Scottish Deerhound doesn’t make the best watchdog. They rarely even bark at strangers! Though intelligent, this breed can be a bit difficult to train. They can be lazy and have a “what’s in it for me?” attitude, so early and consistent training is absolutely necessary. The Scottish Deerhound would love a long walk followed by a few hours lounging on a couch with you – making them an ideal breed for any family!< p>
