If you are considering getting a Schnauzer, you'll want to check out the incredible book "The Complete Guide to Schnauzers". It's written by experienced Schnauzer owner and author Allison Hester and uses expert advice from many top breeders. Highly Reccomended. It's widely available, so pick up a copy if you see one, or click here to grab one on Amazon.
Originally bred as a guard dog and rat hunter in Germany, the Schnauzer is a devoted and affectionate breed who loves nothing more than to be around their family. They are often described as being a dog with a human brain thanks to their intelligence, trainability, and courage. The Schnauzer likes to carry themselves with self-importance and make excellent watchdogs. They are territorial and will alert their families of any strangers. This breed can have a mischievous personality and is always clever. If socialized early with children, they’ll get along great with them. Schnauzers do have strong personalities, though, and can be stubborn, so early training is definitely necessary. However, they do learn quickly so training shouldn’t be too difficult. With their great personality and intelligence, the Schnauzer makes a great addition to any family.
