Salukis are highly adaptable and make great pets in lots of settings. However, don’t let his amiability fool you – he needs plenty of running exercise. This breed developed in Middle Eastern deserts as a sight-hunting hound on chases, and that genetic makeup is still dominant. Ideally your Saluki will get the opportunity to openly run, and once that need is met, he or she will happily cozy up on your couch or bed. Not particularly affectionate, this handsome breed will love you but not make a big to-do about it. Beware of the Saluki’s independent nature: She will take to finding food for herself, whether it’s atop a counter in your kitchen or the rabbits and squirrels in your backyard.
