The Rat Terrier embodies many of the terrier qualities, but the edge is dulled a bit. This breed has the intelligence and pizzazz of its exuberant fellows, but doesn’t have quite the incessant taste for constant engagement as the Jack Russell Terrier. Owners should be prepared to train the Rat Terrier early on for proper barking manners, as well as strategize a way to keep the little guy contained. This breed is a voracious chewer and digger, so keep his safety in mind by providing terrier-proof containment. Ideally the Rat Terrier will bring spirit, humor and intelligence to a household.
