Although the breed may be referred to as an Olde English Bulldogge, it is really an American breed that was started in the 1970s. They may appear large in size, but these dogs are friendly and affectionate with people. They can live as long as 14 years, depending on the health of the individual dog. They have been used in many different forms of training, such as weight pull and obedience, which helps them develop their natural athletic abilities to the fullest. These dogs are predisposed to hip dysplasia, so care must used when selecting an animal for breeding.
