The Norwegian Lundehund hails from Norway, and was bred specifically for hunting puffin birds and collecting their eggs. Unlike other dogs, this breed has six toes instead of five, making it a polydactyl. They are among the oldest Nordic dogs, and have been inexistence before the last Ice Age occurred. They are extremely healthy with few problems, although they may not derive nutrients from food regardless of how much they eat. This issues can be managed with the help of a vet. The AKC welcomed this breed in 2010. Because of war and distemper outbreaks occurring in their native country, there are only 1,400 dogs of this breed today.
