Despite their name translating to “lion dog”, the only thing lion-like about the Lowchen is their looks. The Lowchen is a gentle and playful breed that generally gets along well with everyone. They are robust yet affectionate and loving. They love to be around their families but can be aloof with strangers. Early socialization can help with their wariness, though. The Lowchen gets along really well with other dogs as well. Because they love to be around people, they don’t do well being left alone for long periods of time and can suffer from separation anxiety. They are not a super energetic breed, but they will bark when a stranger is near. This is a “small dog, big personality” breed so early and consistent training is necessary. But the Lowchen is a lively and affectionate dog perfect for families!
