Brave and intelligent, the Kerry Blue Terrier was bred in Ireland as a working dog – hunting small game, killing rodents, and herding cattle and sheep. This good-natured breed is an excellent family dog and gets along well with people of all ages, including children. They don’t always do well with other dogs, though. The Kerry Blue Terrier is a loyal and alert breed, making them great watchdogs – alerting their families when someone is near. Though intelligent, this breed can be strong-willed and needs an owner who is just as strong-willed as well as early and consistent training. The Kerry Blue Terrier is an active breed that needs quite a bit of exercise. Being a terrier, they do love to dig and chase small animals. But, with the right training and socialization, the Kerry Blue Terrier can make a great companion.
