Bred as a companion dog in Asia, the Japanese Chin was a member of the imperial courts in China and Japan. They are elegant and mild-mannered and thrive when they are around their family. The Japanese Chin is a playful breed that has a need to be in high places (like the backs of chairs), can climb, and even enjoys washing themselves. Their small size makes them perfect for apartment dwellers. Though intelligent, they do have a mind of their own so training must be consistent yet fun. The Japanese Chin’s friendly nature makes them wonderful family dogs, especially around other dogs and cats. Their small size can be a problem for young children, so a household with older children is recommended. They have an ability to pick up the emotions of their owners and will match their personalities. The Japanese Chin is a tried and true companion dog.
