Originating in Ireland, the Irish Setter was bred as a gundog. This active and energetic breed is playful and friendly. The Irish Setter is a fun-loving dog that enjoys nothing more than to see new places and do new things. Though extremely intelligent, this breed can be mischievous and independent – making training a bit difficult. However, early, consistent, and patient training can help. The Irish Setter is extremely active and needs a lot of exercise. They are also slow to mature and remain puppy-like for several years. Their friendly nature makes them great with other dogs and children, especially with proper and early socialization. The Irish Setter can become very attached to their family, though, causing separation anxiety when left alone. Overall, the Irish Setter will make a wonderful family companion.
