Originally bred as fox and hare hunters, the Harrier is quite a rare breed today. They have a playful and outgoing personality. The Harrier loves to be around other dogs, people, and are extremely tolerant of children. This an active breed that loves to explore. They should be watched off-leash, though, as they love to chase smaller animals. Though they do love human attention, this is a breed that can entertain themselves. The Harrier is intelligent but can be independent thinking and require early and consistent training. They will alert you of strangers but their friendly nature makes them unstable watchdogs. This a sweet and even-tempered breed that makes a delightful family companion.
