A mix between a Dachshund and a Yorkshire Terrier, the Dorkie has a devoted following for both its adorable looks and quirky personality. As with any designer dog (a cross between two established breeds), the Dorkie can inherit all, both or none of the genetic traits of its parents. It’s important to remember that designer dogs aren’t always bred 50-50, so be sure your breeder is clear on what to expect. The Dachshund is known as a loyal and friendly dog to those it knows, and the Yorkshire Terrier as highly alert watchdog-type in a little, bitty body. Be sure to train these cuties on barking and being accepting of strangers, as they can be a bit on the defensive, yappy side.
