This traditional sporting dog had a popularity boost because of the 1955 Disney movie, Lady and the Tramp, and remained popular long after for many reasons. Its gentle and playful temperament combined with a natural tendency for athletics, makes it a great pet to take on adventures or stay home with. Typically ranging from 20 – 30 pounds, the Cocker Spaniel is happy in an apartment, and will deliver on owners’ desires for an affectionate, intelligent companion. The breed is highly sociable, so doggie play dates are a fun way to socialize them. Outside of the show ring (where long, silky coats prevail), most owners elect a puppy cut, which takes less time but can still need attention every couple of weeks.
