If you bring the Clumber Spaniel into your home, prepare for lots of hair, slobber and – sorry to say, a propensity for submissive urination. If these drawbacks don’t scare you off, you may become the owner of one of the dog world’s gentlest souls. Sometimes referred to as the retired gentleman’s spaniel, this sporting breed doesn’t demand the high levels of exercise many in its tribe does. Although his appearance may look slow and lumbering, looks can be deceiving. Its mischievous personality will play out through wreaking havoc on the unattended home, often impressing, if not flummoxing, owners on how the dog achieved such a feat. Be aware that Clumbers will eat anything, so they can be at risk for intestinal blockages that require surgery.
