The Caucasian Shepherd dog is not for new dog owners, or even families with small children. These dogs grow to be very large (30 inches for males and 28 inches for females), and do not react well to strangers. Because of the sheer size of the dog, this can cause problems. Because of this, Caucasian Shepherd dogs need to be trained in a very specific and detailed way to ensure proper behavior. They are extremely active, and benefit from lots of outdoor play such as long hikes or playing catch. This breed does not do well around other dogs, and should be the only pet in the family home.
