Intelligent, confident, and calm, the Boerboel originated as a farm dog in South Africa. They are a dominant breed with protective instincts. Their intelligence comes with a willingness to please but early training is recommended as they can also be stubborn. They are a loving companion with their families and children, though, and if socialized early enough will get along well with other dogs. They’re so gentle with children, in fact, that they often allow them to ride on their back like horses. Boerboels have an intense loyalty to their family and will guard them fiercely. Overall, Boerboels are a reliable and obedient breed that makes a great family companion.
