The Bloodhound, with its large ears and unique appearance, originated in France to trail boar and deer. Now, the Bloodhound is an extremely intelligent and active breed. They are an affectionate breed that is the opposite of lazy. A tried and true scent-hound, they can follow a scent trail for miles on end. Their scent abilities makes them great dogs for search and rescue and police work. With early training and socialization, Bloodhounds can make great family dogs. They are extremely tolerant of children and love to be around them. They are definitely pack dogs and prefer the company of other dogs. Bloodhounds can be stubborn, though, so early training is a definite necessity.
