The Basenji was originally developed as a hunting breed. They are often classified as a type of hound, usually a sighthound. They were bred from stock that originated from the central parts of Africa. These dogs are playful and also very curious. They usually live between 12 and 16 years, grow to a maximum height of 43 centimeters and usually weigh under 12 kilograms. The Basenji dog breed comes in black, red, brindle and tan. There are also tricolor variants available, as well as a plain black and white breed.< p>
